| Delectable!!! |
When the recipe for Crab and Grapefruit Salad was picked for this weeks French Friday, I seriously thought of skipping the week. The thought of wasting a good can of crab meat on a salad with grapefruit was something I wasn’t sure I wanted to do. However, this was Dorie we’re talking about! She has taken me to many places that I would have never gone! I have tried all sorts of things that were definitely out of my comfort range, with wonderful results! Even though, the chatter from other bloggers seemed to show concern over this recipe, I decided to dive right in.
This salad calls for a red or yellow pepper, a ruby red grapefruit, a kirby cucumber (which I forgot to buy), scallions, and a small chili pepper (which I left out), a pound of lump crabmeat and some fresh mint. I served mine with baby greens. I cheated with the grapefruit and bought a jar of fresh grapefruit sections from the grocery store. This salad came together very well and, was another easy recipe for a terribly busy week! I said before, Dorie never leads astray. This was a wonderfully fresh, delicious salad, that my husband and I really enjoyed! I will be making it again! Thanks Dorie! Happy Friday Everyone!
This recipe can be found in Dorie Greenspans cookbook “Around My French Table” and you can check out what other Doristas are doing by clicking here.

I didn't even know you could buy grapefruit in a can! They look beautiful!
ReplyDeleteTrevor, In a jar…They’re in the refrigerated section. No sugar added…just natural!
DeleteI so adore your process photos! Gorgeous! And it's good to know that the "cheat' worked!
ReplyDeleteYour salad looks so fresh and delicious, I would love this for lunch! Have a wonderful weekend;-)
ReplyDeleteGlad you enjoyed.
ReplyDeleteThis was a beautiful salad - both in flavors & presentation...
Your photos captured the vibrant colors of this salad perfectly, Kathy. Glad you enjoyed it. Have a great weekend!
ReplyDeleteI love your photos of the salad. It was a great salad and one of my family's favorite:) Have a great weekend:)
ReplyDeleteYour photos are beautiful! You are becoming quite professional. Your salad looks perfect and reading this post makes me want to make it again today. Your salad is mouth watering!
ReplyDeleteGorgeous salad, I'm so happy to hear that you enjoyed it. Every time we come to a recipe which I think sounds particularly weird or one which I don't want to do, I think back to the Beggar's Linguine. For me, that is still the weirdest recipe we have made so far and I absolutely loved it. with that in mind I have so far been able to get myself to make all of the other weird sounding ones. But we'll see what happens when we get the aspic!
ReplyDeleteYou did not cheat - that's actually pretty smart! You styled some gorgeous shots, Kathy. I love the purplish tones in the mint.
ReplyDeleteIt's so lovely in color and presentation. You did a beautiful job!
ReplyDeleteLove the close up of the first photo. Really convey the bright colours and tender crabmeat of this salad! Thanks for the tips on using prepared grapefruit segments. It'll come in handy on busy days.
ReplyDeleteTerrific photos, Kathy! We really enjoyed this, too! Have a wonderful weekend!
ReplyDeleteyour grapefruit looks amazing!!
ReplyDeleteYour salad photos are gorgeous Kathy! I think a lot of us approached this dish with caution and were pleasantly surprised. I think this would be lovely at a dinner party.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful photos, Kathy!!! SO yummy looking!
ReplyDeleteI like the baby greens on top. Great photos!
ReplyDeleteOf all of the grapefruit that I have seen so far, I have to say that yours looked appropriately "ruby red!" :) just like Dorothy's slippers!

YOur pictures are incredible! I love the look of the dish! I started out with FFWD and didn't last long..so busy with life. I am commited to sticking with Baking with Julia though!
ReplyDeleteThank you for your sweet comments! I do love reading them:)
This looks luscious. Love the photos. I'm putting this on my list of recipes to try. Made a Barefoot Contessa avocado and grapefruit salad a couple of weeks ago that was incredibly delicious and can't seem to get enough of it.
ReplyDeleteWasn't this a lovely dish? I agree with you that Dorie is always surprising, or maybe it's just that she makes me surprise myself! I like the look of your baby greens for garnish, and I'm jealous that your mint already looks so vigorous. Mine isn't even up an inch yet, but I know it's coming along. The chives and tarragon are a few inches tall.
ReplyDeleteI had no idea there were so many grapefruit haters in this group! Your grapefruit from a jar looks better than my fresh grapefruit looked, and the mint from your garden makes me want to live wherever you live and have whatever garden you have.
ReplyDeleteI would love to eat grapefruit again, unfortunately with high blood pressure my medication has a warning on it not to eat it... I guess it stops it from working strange.. boy did this make me want to just stop taking it to try it looks fabulous..... really making me crave it now.... :)
ReplyDeleteFantastic pictures! We really enjoyed this salad also, it will be perfect for a summer night!
ReplyDeleteKathy, Your pictures jumped off the page. I felt exactly as you did about this recipe. Also, I left out the chile pepper. And, from reading other Posts, I am seeing all different kinds of ways to go with this basic salad. It will be good for the Spring/Summer. Keep clicking those good photos. Mary
ReplyDeleteI have seen the grapefruit in jars but never used it- it looks wonderful along with your exquisite photography!
ReplyDeleteI love the shot of the grapefruit pieces. It just looks like Summer to me! This was kind of blah for me, but I'm glad other people really enjoyed it!
ReplyDeleteGreat pictures, Kathy. I was upbeat about this recipe, too!
ReplyDeleteThis really looks delicious. The Silver Fox and I really enjoy salads like this one. It has great eye appeal and uses ingredients we love. What's not to like :-). Have a great day. Blessings...Mary
ReplyDeleteThis sure looks wonderful! The juicy grapefruit and bell peppers must have really brought out the sweet and juicy crab flavor. I love the combination of flavors!
ReplyDeleteI love the colors of this salad Kathy very appropriate for this time of season!
ReplyDeleteKathy, that photo is just like taking a bite of this salad. I can virtually taste it! Can't wait to catch up and try this one. Beautiful photography.
ReplyDeleteLoved this one but liked it best with shrimp!
ReplyDeleteI can't believe I missed your gorgeous crab and grapefruit salad. I don't see why it wouldn't work, since citrus goes well with crab...and grapefruit to me is a nice choice, along with the fresh mint. So colorful, refreshing, and totally droolworthy, healthy and yummy salad!
